Gattegno is a genius and Sonya was the key to unlocking the door to maths for me and my 2 children. It's been a wild and exciting journey...words I never thought I would use in relation to maths. At each 'stop' we 'notice and wonder' about the relationships we see between the rods/numbers. All the while gaining a very deep understanding of what is really happening in the maths we are doing.

Gattegno doesn't spoon feed you and you have to go through the productive struggle with concepts. That is when the magic happens! Many of these moments have occurred in Sonya's classes as she has the amazing ability to recognize the significance of where Gattegno is leading you. Gattegno, with Sonya's guidance, has really brought maths to life for my family! I often think about all the blog posts etc that talk about how to teach the child who hates maths...my mind goes straight to 'use Gattegno' and the joy that comes with understanding will follow!
